Reps Ask President Tinubu To Unfreeze NSIPA’S Account

The House of Representatives has called on President Bola Tinubu to direct Wale Edun, Minister of Finance, to unfreeze the accounts of the National Social Investment Programmes Agency (NSIPA) within 72 hours.

The resolution, adopted during plenary on Tuesday, followed a motion sponsored by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and 20 other lawmakers.

The House urged the immediate release of funds to NSIPA to settle outstanding stipends for 395,731 N-Power beneficiaries and ensure the smooth resumption of programmes such as N-Power, Conditional Cash Transfers, and the school feeding initiative.

Additionally, the House has directed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to suspend the retirement of over 1,000 staff and the associated N50 billion payoff scheme pending an investigation.

The probe, led by an ad hoc committee, will assess the process, criteria, and legality of the mass retirements and their impact on Nigeria's financial sector.

The motion, sponsored by Hon Kama Nkemkama also called for the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment to protect the rights of affected staff under Nigerian labour laws.

The House also mandated the federal government, through the Ministries of Marine and Blue Economy and Transportation, to investigate a recent boat mishap.

The investigation, prompted by a motion from Hon. Unyime Idem, aims to improve maritime safety and prevent future incidents.
